After participating in a Y.E.T. Workshop, it is expected that young people will have the ability to:
- Tune into themselves and be aware of their important personal needs.
- Identify what it takes to make and keep a friend.
- Understand and deal with people in their lives.
- Identify who “owns the problem” in a given situation.
- Express their feelings, ideas, opinions with I-Messages.
- Give positive feedback.
- Prevent some problems and conflicts.
- Know what not to do when a friend has a problem.
- Identify the 12 Roadblocks to Communication.
- Tune into others and hear and understand them.
- Active Listen to hear their friend’s or other person’s feelings.
- Identify when they (themselves) own the problem.
- Handle feelings of anger effectively.
- Confront a friend’s or other person’s unacceptable behavior.
- Develop a three-part Confrontive I-Message.
- Shift gears to Active Listen when necessary.
- Understand how fear can block taking action.
- Reduce fear that stops them from doing or saying something important.
- Recognize conflict situations.
- Avoid the win-lose ways of handling conflicts.
- Use No-Lose Conflict Resolution to resolve conflicts.
- Relate to people who are different from them.
- Plan actions to meet goals.
